How to choose your crystal
There's no wrong way to pick a crystal. Most people use one of three paths, and many simply trust the stone they can't stop looking at.
1. Start with what you need
Think about what you want more of right now: calm, protection, love, abundance, clarity or change. Each of our intention collections gathers the stones traditionally kept for that purpose. Not sure? The three-question crystal quiz narrows it down for you.
2. Follow your sign
Every zodiac sign has stones it's traditionally paired with. Open crystals by zodiac sign and start with your sun sign. If you know your moon or rising sign, those are worth a look too.
3. Go with your gut
If one stone keeps catching your eye, that's reason enough. Color is a good guide: greens and pinks feel gentle, blues feel cool and clear, reds and oranges feel warm and energizing, and blacks feel grounding.
What each shape is for
- Tumbled stones: smooth pocket stones to carry, hold during meditation or tuck under a pillow.
- Raw stones: the stone as it came from the earth, great for shelves, grids and plant pots.
- Points and towers: a single point that's often used to direct focus or energy.
- Spheres and eggs: soft, even shapes that show off a stone's full color and pattern.
- Clusters, geodes and druses: many crystals together, lovely as a centerpiece and often used to recharge smaller stones.
- Hearts: easy to hold and a natural gift.
- Pyramids: a steady, balanced shape for desks and altars.
- Jewelry: the easiest way to keep a stone with you all day.
Where to keep it
Calming stones like amethyst and lepidolite suit a bedroom. Focus stones like fluorite and clear quartz suit a desk. Protective stones like black tourmaline are often kept near the front door.
